OPEN A DROP-OFF STORE
One idea for capitalizing on the eBay juggernaut is to open a
brick-and-mortar storefront and accept items off the street to
sell on eBay. Basically a consignment business, you typically
charge an upfront insertion fee (different from and greater
than eBay??™s fee) and then pay the consignee when the item
sells, minus shipping costs and a commission fee. You can
open your own store or join one of the national franchises,
such as iSold It (www.i-soldit.com) and QuikDrop (www
.quikdrop.com). However, eBay doesn??™t leave you
completely on your own. You can aspire to become an
eBay-sanctioned Trading Post , a drop-off store designation
for trading assistants with a demonstrated sales record
(a minimum of $25,000 in monthly eBay sales). Figure 10-11: A well thought-out profile, along with PowerSeller status, will help
drive customers to you.
