LINK TO eBAY FROM YOUR WEB SITE
Having a Web site is almost a given for anyone who does business today, online
or offline. Even if only providing informational and customer service-oriented
material, a Web site adds credibility to your eBay business. Simple Web sites are
generally provided by your Internet service provider (ISP), and you can easily
create your own with a Web site creation program, such as Microsoft FrontPage.
Your ISP typically provides free Web server storage space as part of your
Internet connection subscription, so cost is low or minimal. To drive ???outsiders???
CAUTION
The IRS is working on closing a $300 billion tax gap. The
IRS estimates that unpaid taxes from individuals, not big
corporations, account for more than 70 percent of the
tax. Last year, an IRS advisory committee recommended
that online auction sites be required to file reports of
sales transactions with the IRS and that sellers be
required to obtain a taxpayer identification number. If
you use eBay to clear out your attic, you probably don't
have to worry about paying taxes on the sales (probably
selling at a loss). But if you earn extra income by selling
items online (whether you??™re formalized as a business or
not), you??™re supposed to pay taxes on your profits.
