party (the shipper), but you also are putting faith in your
buyers that they will be reasonable people and accept the
delivered item despite any number of potential problems:
unforeseen delays in delivery, misinterpretations as to
shipping instructions, or good-faith assumptions on

your part. By performing the actions you do have control over (for example,
using sound packaging and choosing tracking features your shippers offer), you
will alleviate many headaches (and late-night e-mails).
Package the Item
As the saying goes, you only have one shot at a first impression. For your buyer,
the appearance of the packaging he or she receives from you generally qualifies
as that one opportunity. Even if your item arrives undamaged, an obviously
poorly packaged item will leave a bad impression in the buyer??™s mind; whereas
even when an item arrives damaged, if it??™s obvious you took all necessary
precautions in your packaging to prevent it, the buyer will generally only be
interested in getting a refund and will vent his or her angst toward the shipper
instead of you.
