??? Who??™s quicker to the draw? Has the buyer or bidder clicked the Pay Now button
that appears in his or her end-of-auction e-mail in the completed listing
form and acknowledged payment using PayPal or one of your other accepted payment
means? Do you need to send an invoice to request payment (or reminder the buyer
with a second invoice)? (You can still send an invoice after a buyer acknowledges
payment, but it??™s not necessary if all payment details are known and correct.) See
Chapter 4 for details on the buyer??™s side of the end-of-auction experience.
Figure 8-3: eBay sends the seller an end-of-listing e-mail providing the final sales price and
links to send an invoice through either eBay or private e-mail.
TIP
There are as many tenets about selling on eBay as there
are sellers on eBay. If polled, the one common mantra
among sellers would probably be, ???Don??™t ship the item until
you get paid,??? which begs the question, ???When are you
really paid???? A good question, since other than cash on the
barrelhead, most other payment methods have ways to
become ???unpaid?????”for example, checks can bounce and
credit card charges can be disputed. See Chapter 9 for
things you can do to protect your transaction.
