Besides solving the ???what??? to sell problem, you also need to consider how
much to charge for them. Even if you??™re letting the competitive bidding process
determine the selling price, you??™ll want to know a product??™s approximate value
to forecast potential profit, set expectations, and establish a reserve price. There
are several marketing research techniques you can do on your own, and several
fee-based tools are available to get just the level of analysis you need.
See What People Are Buying
It??™s always best to sell a product that people want (it tends to increase sales!).
The following sections can help you determine what to sell.
FIND WHAT??™S HOT
Wouldn??™t it be nice to have a crystal ball and know in advance what people will
be buying in the future? Well, in a small sense, eBay offers you that opportunity
by posting a calendar of upcoming events that highlight categories featured on
its home page. eBay offers this and other tools that provide selling trends and
data points on its What??™s Hot page.
1. Point to Sell on the eBay header, and click Getting Started.
2. At Seller Central, under Choose A Topic, click What??™s Hot. In the What??™s Hot section:
??? Click Merchandising Calendar to see which/when categories of items will be
promoted on the eBay home page and other prominent pages.
