The idea is that a bidding war will occur when
buyers see activity on the bidding front. There is some
truth to this, as bidders seem more interested in what
others are bidding on; also, every time you enter a bid,
someone else must bid higher to get the item. So you
might be better off just watching the auction and jumping
in at the last minute with your highest proxy bid. Of
course, if you really want the item, then saving money
may not be the most important object.

4. On one window, click the History n Bids link to see the details of the current bid. Click
Refresh on your browser to keep the bid current, or press F5 on your keyboard.
5. On the other window, click Place Bid to display the bid entry screen. Type your price
and click Continue. The Confirm Your Bid page is displayed. (You may have to fill in
your User ID and password.) Delay clicking Confirm Bid until the time is just right,
within the last 30 seconds. (You??™ll need to test how quickly your bid is processed on
your computer and Internet service so you can time it just right.)
NOTE
Shill bidding is when a bid is placed to increase the price
rather than to win the auction.
