It is allowed by
eBay, although it doesn??™t feel very good to be the victim of a
sniper. You can do it, too, however, either doing it yourself or
using specialized software.
USE TWO WINDOWS
To keep an eye on what is going on with the bidding process, and also to
prepare your own maximum bid, you need two windows, an example of which
is shown in Figure 3-8.
1. Find the item you want. Click the listing title so that the View Item page is displayed.
2. Press CTRL+N to split your browser into two windows.
3. Select each window and drag the borders to resize them to fit the screen so that both
windows are visible.
NOTE
In eBay??™s Buy It Now (BIN) offerings, once you have
entered a bid number lower than the BIN price, that fixed
price feature disappears and the auction is conducted as a
highest-bid-wins-the-item auction. However, at the time of
this book writing, that is being reconsidered, and eBay may
in the future continue to offer the BIN feature regardless of
whether an auction process is occurring or not.
TIP
If you are timing an auction closely, you really need to
synchronize your watch with official eBay time, especially
if you anticipate vigorous bidding. See Chapter 4 for how
to add an item to the Items I??™m Watching view or calendar.
QUICKFACTS
DELAYING YOUR BID
Many experienced eBay buyers hold their bids until the
last minute in order to ensure that they get the lowest
price.
